Depending on the kind of work you do, you might be familiar with different blade types for your bandsaw. Today, we will show you a few of the most commonly used blades and their purposes. Below are the 6 most used bandsaw blades and descriptions for what they’re good at.
The Wavy Tooth Blade
This type of tooth set helps the saw to more comfortably cut a variety of shapes. It also eliminates tooth stripping when sawing thin sections or tubing, pipe, and many other items.
The Variable Tooth Blade
This blade helps to reduce vibrations. It differs from the variable pitch blade in size and that with a variable pitch saw blade, the teeth vary in gullet depth, set angle, and pitch.
The Skip Tooth Blade
These blades have a flat gullet and zero rake angle. It has a 90-degree tooth with sharp angles where the gullet meets. This type of blade is typically used for cutting wood and other softer cut applications.
The Hook Tooth Blade
These blades look similar to hooks, as its name would suggest. With an undercut face with a positive 10-degree rake angle, these blades can be used to make faster, more coarse cuts, mostly in plastics, metal, thicker wood, or hardwood.
The Regular Tooth Blade
This blade is ideal for general metal cutting. It can also give a better finish on woodworking projects as its teeth are mainly straight-faced. It has deep gullets between teeth and it is very popular for accurate cuts on softwoods.
The Diamond Blade
This blade is used mainly for metalwork. It is created to cut hard materials like brick, metal, porcelain, and marble.
There are many other types of blades, these are just some of the most common types. Not every blade is created equally, so make sure you do your research and select the proper tools for your job.
