Welding helmets are an essential piece of equipment when working on any project. It is always part of the welder and since it is always being worn it is important to be comfortable and secure with your choice. So, which welding helmet is right for you? Let’s look at some different types of welding helmets to help you make that choice!

Auto-darkening welding helmets are a great choice because, during your welding, the helmet can detect the light being emitted and adjust itself automatically. This was an implemented feature because the manual adjustment of the lens can be distracting and reduce productivity. These helmets can be pricey, however. So this really depends on how often you are welding and how valuable you consider this convenience to be for your own applications.

Fixed-shade lens helmets come with a shade level of 10, usually. They do not adjust to various brightness but they are ideal if you plan to only work on one project that uses the same material constantly. Without the need to adjust the lens it is ideal for DIY welders who tend to work on the same types of projects all the time.

The passive welding helmet is one of the most basic helmets. It protects the eyes, keeps the heat away, and is quite affordable. This is a common helmet, ideal for welders on a budget or those who prefer simplicity in their tools and gear.

Solar-powered lens helmets are self-explanatory, as they get their energy from solar power. This means your battery pack doesn’t have to do as much work and this helmet will automatically switch the lens off when not in use. This helps to save battery power, resulting in the ability to get more use out of a single charge.

There are lots of other welding helmets out there but these are just a few of the basics. Whatever the project, make sure you have the equipment you need and a welding helmet is a top priority!
