Along these same lines, try making a grill surface to cook food on. These can be simply done by cutting pieces of metal piping and welding them together.
Lastly, try a coat rack, towel rack, or shelving of some kind. These items are always useful to have in the home and you can get some experience with welding pieces together as this is a vital metalworking skill. You can make the bases and the hooks for these items or you can make your bases and purchase the hooks if you want.
