What Industries Rely On the Steel Market

Steel is a very common material across many areas of life and business. It is nearly impossible to go about a normal day and not encounter a product that uses steel in some way. While some industries use steel more than others, it still spans dozens of products and uses. Here are some of the industries that most heavily rely on steel.

The automotive and transport industry is right up at the top, and you may have guessed that. From trains, ships, planes, and your everyday cars, this industry relies heavily on steel for strength and safety in all their products. Steel has an amazing strength to weight ratio and because of this has revolutionized transportation throughout the years.

Construction is another huge industry reliant on steel. As one of the world’s most reliable materials, you can find steel in nearly every construction project today due to it being durable and lightweight. Steel beams are common in private and public construction from railroads and skyscrapers to homes and parks. When it comes to affordability and strength, nothing beats this material for these major projects.

Steel has been used for hundreds of years in packaging, as well. Its ability to protect goods from air, water, and sunlight has made it important in this industry, as well. While you can find steel used in items such as bottle caps, it is commonly used for food and beverages.

Energy is also largely reliant on steel. Whether it be oil, solar, wind, electric, or natural gas, nearly all sources of energy demand steel in their construction. As long as energy is in demand, steel will be necessary in providing it to the world.

Our final point is your home. Appliances may seem obviously reliant on steel but it can be easy to forget about the things we see and use every day. Steel accounts for around seventy-five percent of the average household appliance’s weight. Your washing machine, dryer, fridge, dishwasher, sinks, and various other products around your home are all made from steel and therefore appliances are clearly an industry heavily reliant on it. Any modern household requires most of the available appliances to function.

Steel impacts our everyday life in ways we notice and ways we don’t. Imagine where we would be without steel, though. The cars we drive and the homes we live in would be vastly different and therefore, so would our whole lives. Steel is an invaluable resource and I for one am grateful for its many uses.
